I can still see it coming.
Yesterday Steve Barr Green Dot charter schools chairman and confidante of Arne Duncan Secretary of education is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of the organization he founded to devote himself to a broader involvement in national educational reform

In the past I had predicted he would be joining with Randi Weingarten President of the American Federation of Teachers to be part of a major state or district effort for Race to the Top funds. They have already linked up to start a charter school in the Bronx. Since Barr’s Green Dot charters are willing to work with union teachers the pairing should not undercut Weingarten.

Barr’s withdrawal from a major role in the California Green Dot operation frees him up to take a look at other schools and school districts, particularly urban systems, as opportunities for Green Dot like takeovers.

I’m sure it’s already in the works. It’s my guess we will hear an announcement shortly from some Race to the Top applicant saying it has teamed up with the Barr-Weingarten conglomerate to reform its schools.

This may be the partnering the AFT needs to stay viable as a player in schools and schooling in the face of the Obama and much of the Democratic party’s pressure on teachers unions.
