In terms of school leadership, the whole leader refers certainly to instructional, managerial, and organizational acumen. In its 2000 report, “Reinventing the Principalship,” IEL wrote that “ …schools of the 21st century will require a new kind of principal, one whose role will be defined in terms of instructional, community, and visionary leadership.” Today, we expand that definition to one that makes clear and emphasizes the importance and impact of personal attributes such as integrity, ethics, moral courage, and personal strength.   more »
