Volume 1 Week of December 19-23, 2005 Number 16

Hi All,

Last Friday’s call for whether or not to have school seems to have been much easier than the week before.
When I arrived early it was still sleeting and quite slick, but an educated guesser would assume that the rain was
not too far off and that proved to be true. By mid-day there was just a steady rain and the temps had warmed
into the upper 30’s and all problems disappeared. I’m hopeful we can make it through the rest of this week and
avoid any cancellations for the remainder of 2005. That would suit me just fine.

Congratulations are due to Dan Moore and all the student members of the FHS chorus. They put on a
wonderful show at Walsh Middle School on Thursday night last week, complete with show choir theatrics and
more traditional choral arrangements. There were solos, duets, and many other combinations too. They were
quite professional and there was a good crowd. Well done!

About mid-day on Friday I got a call from Superintendent Martes asking if I was going to attend the ceremony
with Lt. Governor Kerry Healey at FHS on Monday. Huh? What ceremony, was this? Evidently, the
governor’s office wanted to make a special presentation on at a high school Monday and had decided that
Framingham High School was the right place to do it. Unfortunately, no one thought to notify us here at the
school. My senses tell me that after Governor Romney announced he would not run for governor and Kerry
Healey informally announced her intention to seek that office, her advisors were looking for a place to get some
coverage of a presentation ceremony. After a lot of phone calling, it was decided that we would host the Lt.
Governor and her entourage on Monday at 11:00 am. While I am aware of the reason for the ceremony, I’m
trying to keep things a secret for the sake of the students involved. There will be a number of kids involved,
and I apologize for the short notice, but as you can see we didn’t exactly have a lot of advanced warning either.

Consider this the last call for signing up for restraint training provided by the district. As I mentioned last
week, there will be two days set aside for this. The two-day training is scheduled for Thursday, January 5 and
Wednesday, January 11, 2006. Both of these trainings last for most of the day. Please just zing Gerri an e-mail
to enroll. We have 8 slots set aside for the high school, and we currently have only 4 people signed up.

The National Honor Society and many members of the senior class will be conducting the holiday drive this
week with most of the wrapping and delivery conducted on Friday during the day. They’re using the Juniper
Hill School as a home base for operations, and many of them will be over there on Friday. Thanks to Jim Quinn
and all the students for organizing and following through on this annual event.

This week will be a stressful one for many of us, students and faculty both. Please make sure to be extra patient
and calm over the course of the week, as everyone’s sanity will be tested. Then, make sure you get some much-
needed rest and relaxation over the break. We all deserve it. This break is a time for friends and family, and
taking care of oneself. You’ll need to be eager to return in January as we turn the corner into 2006.

Best of luck, health, and happiness to all in 2006!
